Rooted Hub is a secular, nature-based educational program designed to improve community well-being through the intersection of Social Science and Environmental Stewardship. By moving the classroom into nature, we provide a "hub" where individual journeys meet. Our sessions offer practical tools for mental and physical regulation, grounded in the latest research on neuroscience and mindfulness.
Building my Veggie Garden is our educational video series on YouTube and other social media channels that addresses three concerns about sustenance: food availability, self-reliance, and interest in healthy food. This program has three subdivisions: - Community Patch - Garden Friends - Teaching Garden The mission of the show is to equip our audience with tools to make better nutritious choices by exploring the world of vegetables with a wondering and playful mind. www.youtube.com/@buildingmyveggiegarden
To cultivate wellness of the mind and body through nature-based education and secular mindfulness, providing a shared space where community members can ground themselves in science, stillness, and connection. What We Do The program focuses on three core pillars of development: Grounding (The Body): We utilize evidence-based techniques to reduce stress and regulate the nervous system. Participants learn how nature immersion physically impacts biological health, lowering heart rates and improving overall vitality. Awareness (The Mind): Through guided secular meditation and observational exercises, we teach "mental architecture"—helping participants cultivate focus, emotional resilience, and a clearer perspective on their personal journey. Connection (The Community): Rooted Hub acts as a social meeting point. We foster a sense of belonging by connecting people to the land and to each other, building a stronger, more resilient community network.
A resilient and connected community, rooted in wellness, where individual journeys meet in nature to grow together.
Why It Matters In an increasingly fast-paced world, Rooted Hub offers a scientific approach to stillness. Our program provides the space to un-plug, re-center, and grow—ensuring that our community remains as healthy and vibrant as the gardens we tend. This program is a partnership with Steadfast Circle of Percussion Drumming
We are building a community of gardeners in two community gardens in the Central Florida area. One of our patches is in St. Petersburg, FL. We try to grow mostly greens in this patch. One of our precious plants in this patch is chipilin, a perennial legume that is native to Central America. It is considered one of the 16 most important species of edible leaves in the world. Our Second patch is in Largo, FL. This is where we grow Roselle (hibiscus tea), an exquisite flower and one of the finest teas in the world. We also grow lemon grass, squashes and watermelons, among other veggies.
We are also building a community of gardeners who have transformed their backyard into a vegetable garden. Their experience is invaluable and we appreciate it when they use our YouTube channel to impart their wisdom. Our friends live in various cities in the Tampa Bay area. They all share our enthusiasm about the life wonders in vegetable gardening.
Located at the UUC Gardens, our garden is our educational center where families come to learn, and volunteers help us grow vegetables to give away in the food deserts of the Central Florida area. This program is a partnership with UUC (Unitarian Universalists of Clearwater). We have a main event once a month. We teach gardening classes and how to be echo-friendly and recycle materials to use in the garden. At this event we give away seeds and plants to people starting their gardens and anybody in the community who would like to have seeds and plants for their garden. We also have gardening and cooking classes for families.
